BATMAN: DEATH MASK

Yeah, It's CMX. CMX is a division of Wildstorm so it gets a mention here...

In April, DC Comics will be releasing Batman: Death Mask—a prestige format limited series—introducing renowned Japanese writer/artist Yoshinori Natsume to the American mainstream comic book market. In Batman: Death Mask, the Dark Knight must hunt down a mysterious, new serial killer with connections to Bruce Wayne’s initial globe spanning training that led to his transformation into Batman. It’s possible that this deadly killer may even know who Batman is. Batman: Death Mask is an original four issue mini-series that blends an iconic American superhero with the Japanese Manga style of storytelling.

Yoshinori Natsume: Batman is an established character and everyone has his or her own idea about what he is supposed to look like. But I think it’s a lot of fun seeing how different artists interpret the character, and how they each bring their own unique “take” to the Batman.

A full interview with Yoshinori Natsume can be found here.

WONDERCON '08: THE WILDSTORM PANEL

Check the whole report here

Some Highlights:

DC/Wildstorm: Dreamwar crossover written by Keith Giffen which begins in April. “The multiverse is not involved,” Peterson said, stressing that Giffen had found a way to tell the story without invoking the 52 worlds of the DC multiverse.

The Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor, wherein, “Jack Hawksmoor, the king of cities, finds out that San Francisco is trying to kill him, and has to find out why,”

Kirby then discussed New Dynamix, coming next month, and panel latecomer Jim Lee said that Kirby and writer Allen Warner sold them on the idea due to their passion for a variety of underused Wildstorm characters from the past who the team wanted to dust off and bring back into play

Batman: Death Mask, though starring Batman, is being packaged by Wildstorm, under Editor Jim Chadwick. The story is an original manga story by Yoshinori Natsume, and is set both in present day and flashbacks to the past, when Bruce Wayne spent time in Japan, learning the martial arts. “Bruce Wayne may have unleashed certain things whose ramifications will reach all the way to present day Gotham City.”

Asked about Wildcats, Lee said that he has the second script from Grant Morrison, but Wildstorm will not solicit it until there are several issues ready to go. The story should run six issues long. “At this point there’s no way to make amends,” Lee said, “All we can do it make sure than when it does ship, it’s the best story it can be.” Lee added that the story is now out of continuity, and takes place before the events which are currently happening with the Wildcats in the present-day Wildstorm Universe

Will characters from Sleeper such as Toa show up in Wildstorm? Peterson: “Yes. I can’t go into it specifically, but you will see the characters in the not to distant future.”

DREAM WAR NEWS

Thought this interview with Keith Giffen was interesting. Read the whole interview here.

"NRAMA: OK, we'll have to wait and see what that means. But before you go, Keith, there was a preview of Dreamwar, your Wildstorm/DC crossover that showed up last week on Newsarama, and it had what appeared to be the Wolfman/Perez era of the Teen Titans. Now, we had talked about this crossover before, and it was just assumed that it was the current DCU that was going to be showing up in the current WSU. Does this preview mean it's a past era of the DCU that's showing up?

KG: Well... that's the Teen Titans that are crossing over.

NRAMA: Then... does that mean the other characters from the DCU who show up in the WSU will be from that era too?

KG: Let's just say that just because we've seen the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans doesn't necessarily mean you're going to see the Justice League or any of the other heroes from that era. What we're crossing over here is the DCU, but it's not a time-consistent DCU. With the preview, you've seen which Teen Titans version is crossing over. Now the question becomes, which Justice League version? Which version of the Legion of Super-Heroes? Which version of what characters are going to be showing up, and how the hell can they show up in the Wildstorm Universe being from different times without traveling through time or crossing the Multiverse?"

DC/WILDSTORM: DREAMWAR #1 FIRST LOOK!

This is Excellent. Lee Garbett is proving to be a great addition to the Wildstorm universe.
Would love to see how Keith Giffin makes sense of this.

"Keith Giffen: It's pretty straightforward. It's DC characters vs. Wildstorm characters. And the way the story is laid out and the way the story is conceived, I think I've actually come up with a legitimate reason for heroes to meet, fight, then reason it out, then team up."
